We are Room 13 at MeadowbankSchool. On our wiki we will be publishing our best work, commenting on other peoples work to give them feedback and feed forward and sharing our work with people from around the world! We would really love you to leave a comment either on the home page or one of our individual pages. Your comments often help us to improve our work and definately motivate us to keep up the great work we are doing! We love getting feedback on the work we are doing in Room 13 both inside and outside the classroom! We would also love to hear/communicate with people around the world. If you are from a school in a different country then please let us know so we can start communicating with each other throughout 2011!

TERM FOUR UPDATE:

Our topic for Term 4 is ‘Globalisation’ and the Year 5 team has chosen to have an Social Studies focus. Room 13 are combining with Room 12 to take on a real life social action project. We are looking at ways in which we can collect second hand books for two primary schools in South Africa who do not have any books at all. We have no money to carry out this project therefore we are going to need to com up with creative ways to organise the collection, packaging and freight of books. More information will come home throughout the term - we are really excited that our learning is real and for an authentic purpose - it really does demonstrate the true meaning of Globalisation.

We all get really motivated with feedback - especially from Mum and Dad! Also Miss B is so proud of the work we have been doing - especially our fantastic written work! SO CHECK IT OUT AND LEAVE A COMMENT!
Term 3 Successes!

Term three was a really great term with the highlight being the Science/Technology Exhibition. We showcased our work on Natural Products and Stain Removers. This unit of work was enjoyed by all the members of Room 13 because we were able to do lots of Science when testing commercial stain removers and natural ingredients, Technology with the development of our products and ICT with the making of our business websites and use of QR codes. Click here to look at our Sci/Tech business websites.

Term three also included some really interesting literacy work. We started out 'Jolly Postman' unit of work where were are incorporating multi genres into a rhyming narrative to a series of characters. This will be continued in term 4 and then bound into a book to treasure forever. We also leart all about complex sentences, advanced punctuation and how to make our written language more sophisticated in order to meet the National Standard.
STAIN REMOVER CUSTOMER SURVEYS - please take the time to complete the surveys. We would appreciate your responses by Monday 22 August.

Today we learnt how to use a programme called Survey Monkey. Each group has created a short survey in relation to their stain remover research that we are currently doing in relation to this terms topic. The children all wrote their own questions and each group made this online survey while other groups rang up various cleaning product companies to request proper ingredient lists so that we can give each product a health rating and look at the potential risks involved in using some products. It would be really helpful if you could click as many of the links below and answer the few questions that have been written by each group of students (possibly different members of your family could complete a different survey to share the load). We are wanting as many different Meadowbank Parents (our chosen demographic) to answer the surveys as possible so please encourage them to complete the surveys too!

During Week 4 we participated in a programme called Trykids. It is a programme run by Mark Weedon and it is aimed to get children active through the sport of triathlon. We had a lot of fun learning about the three sports that make up a triathlon and learning how to do transitions correctly. The photos below show us in action...
